Proud to Join Leaders Driving Economic Transformation in Newry, Mourne and Down

Proud to have been part of Local Economic Partnership meeting as Newry, Mourne and Down District Council officially launched its £4.5m Local Economic Partnership Action Plan, becoming the first council in Northern Ireland to begin delivery.

It was a pleasure to join Minister for the Economy Dr Caoimhe Archibald, Council Chairperson Cllr Philip Campbell and partners from across business, tourism, enterprise and government as we marked this important milestone.

The Action Plan reflects a strong collaborative effort focused on:

• Strengthening local productivity

• Supporting businesses and social enterprises through targeted mentoring and grants

• Reviving and reimagining commercial property to drive economic activity

• Increasing awareness and adoption of AI across the region

• Supporting sustainable tourism through the Mourne Gullion Strangford Geopark network

Great to see so many stakeholders working together to deliver real economic impact for the district and exciting to be part of the journey as projects progress into 2026.

Looking forward to the work ahead and the opportunities it will bring for our local economy.
